Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been named the La Liga Player of the Season for the 2022/23 season.

Ter Stegen won the award after his heroics in goal for Barcelona, which saw him keep 26 clean sheets and only concede 18 goals in 38 games – a feat that hasn’t happened for many years in the division.

Ter Stegen beat the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Vinicius Jr and teammate Robert Lewandowski to win the award.

Ter Stegen is the first goalkeeper since Jan Oblak to have won this award.

The German goalkeeper, however, missed out on the record for most clean sheets in a single La Liga season.

Ter Stegen kept 26 clean sheets in the La Liga this term, which is the joint-most for a team in a single La Liga season in the league’s history. The last time any one matched this feat was far back in the 1993/94 season by Deportivo la Coruna.
