Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been told he will not be Germany’s number 1 keeper at the Euros this summer.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has told the Barca number one that Bayern’s first choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be his number one choice for Euro 2024.
“We have made the decision [on the first choice],” Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann said.
“Unfortunately, Manu [Neuer] has been injured. He is just a muscle fibre tear, he will not be out for eight months.
“It is also about giving some security to the players. These are players who come off the bench, they must have a certain security and clarity.
“I have also told Marc [Ter Stegen] that I am glad that we still have a second-world-class goalkeeper. He can always have something happen.
“From Marc’s point of view, it’s good that he has the opportunity, that he is there. Manu has played many games in a row. Muscle injuries sometimes occur. But the decision has been made, I am not going to change it because of a muscle fibre tear that will be over in eight days.”
