In France second round World Cup clash against Poland, it pitched some Barcelona players against each other.

Jules Kounde and Ousmane Dembele were up against Robert Lewandowski.

France defeated Poland 3-1, and one of the major talking points of the game was Jules Kounde’s decision to wear a gold chain during the game.

Wearing jewelleries are prohibited in the game, and Kounde was later asked to the it off when it was noticed by the match officials.

Explaining his decision to wear a necklace, Kounde admitted it was a mistake.

He said: “I forgot about it. It never happened to me, neither in Spain nor anywhere else, but this time, I forgot.

“The referee only told me to take it off, nothing more.”

In his post-match press briefing after the game, a surprised France manager Didier Deschamps said: “No no no, that’s because he can’t do it [wear items of jewellery]. I know that it’s a little superstition for Jules, he wears it in training. I see what it means to him.

“Players can’t wear jewellery… Frankly, that’s only for that reason [Kounde was asked to remove the chain]. I thought he’d removed it [before the game] but apparently no.”
