Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has issued a timely reminder to his players as they prepare for the decisive Champions League semifinal second leg against Inter Milan.
With a place in the final at stake, Flick is urging caution and tactical discipline as his side aims to navigate past one of Europe’s most resolute defensive teams.
Flick, who has been analysing Inter’s approach in depth, knows his side must tread carefully.
“It’s important not to give them the chance. In midfield and the last line. They play very well,” the German tactician warned. Inter’s ability to exploit even the smallest lapse in concentration means Barcelona must maintain focus throughout the 90 minutes.
While Barca is known for its fluid attacking play, Flick understands that adaptability will be key in a battle between two tactical giants.
“Inter will try to adapt to Barca’s style, just like Barca will try to adapt to theirs,” Flick noted, acknowledging the chess match that awaits at the highest level of European football.
Set-pieces are another area of concern for Flick, particularly corners, which Inter have used effectively this season to turn games in their favour. The former Bayern Munich boss doesn’t want to hand the Italians any free opportunities.
“It might be a good idea to avoid giving away corners… It’s not something you can coach, but players know what to do in that situation,” he added, putting responsibility in the hands of his players to manage those high-pressure moments.
Flick’s final message to his squad was clear: defend as a unit and control the space.
“Closing down spaces and mobilising everyone in defense will be crucial for Barca’s success,” he concluded, emphasising the collective effort required to outsmart and outwork Inter Milan.
