Rio Ferdinand names his new favourites to win the Champions League. It’s no longer Real Madrid

After another entertaining night of Champions League football, former Manchester United defender and current TNT Sports pundit Rio Ferdinand has shaken the table.

The Manchester United legend has backed down on Real Madrid, and insists PSG are now his favourites.

Interestingly, he didn’t see Barcelona as favourites.

“I have them as favourites right now,” Ferdinand declared, speaking about Paris Saint-Germain after their 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

“The way I saw them manhandle Liverpool over two legs and the way they’ve dominated the game here.”

Ferdinand was particularly impressed not just with their attacking prowess, but with their structure and intensity off the ball.

“I said on comms as much as we’ve been blown away by the goals and the moments of skill, I’ve been as impressed by their ability to win the ball back,” he said. “They played with the authority of a team who’ve won this tournament many times before, but they haven’t.

“But it looks like they’re a team who know how to get the best out of each individual player and really, really dominate opposing players – man to man – but also as a collective.”

It’s great that people still see Barcelona as outsiders, while Hansi Flick is steadily building an empire capable of doing the quadruple.
