Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has set his sights on a move to Barcelona this summer, despite only recently joining Aston Villa on loan, according to reports from The Sun.

Rashford’s representatives, who include his brothers, held talks with Barcelona during the January transfer window. However, a deal could not be reached at the time, leaving Aston Villa as his best available option after it became clear he was not in the plans of new United manager Ruben Amorim.

Villa secured the 26-year-old on a loan deal, with an option to make the move permanent for £40 million ($50m) at the end of the season. However, sources suggest that Rashford does not see his long-term future in the Midlands and instead has ambitions of playing at the highest level in European football—something Barcelona can offer.

Rashford has made a strong impact since joining Villa, impressing in his brief appearances. He played a key role in the FA Cup victory over Tottenham last weekend and was influential in Villa’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Ipswich Town on Saturday, where his free-kick struck the bar and led to Ollie Watkins’ equaliser.

While his performances have been promising, Rashford made it clear from the outset that his move to Villa was temporary. Upon signing for Unai Emery’s side, he stated:

“Obviously it’s only short term that I’m here but I want to make the most of my time here. The only way to do that is by using my attributes and skill-sets to help the team.”

With Villa currently struggling to secure Champions League qualification, Rashford is reportedly keen to join a club that aligns with his ambitions of competing at the highest level. A switch to Barcelona would be a dream move, allowing him to play in La Liga and on the biggest European stage.

The Catalan giants have been linked with a summer move for the English forward in recent months, and given Rashford’s desire to move to Spain, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona will reignite their interest in him when the transfer window opens.
