After Barcelona delivered a stunning 7-1 thrashing of Valencia, their captain, José Gayà, expressed his disappointment and issued an apology to their fans.
“I feel anger and disappointment for all the people who have come to see us and the one who has seen us from home,” Gayà told DAZN.
“We want to apologize because we have not lived up to the game or the shirt we represent.”
Reflecting on the humbling defeat at Camp Nou, Gayà admitted the team had taken a backward step after showing signs of improvement in recent weeks.
“We came in an ascending line, and today we have taken a step back. You have to get up for the next game,” he said.
“You have to hurt and we can’t forget it. We have to channel all the energy and all the rage we have today to take advantage of it in the next game.”
Looking ahead, the Valencia skipper emphasized the need to bounce back quickly, with their next match against Barcelona looming in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.
“That is the only way I see to get the three points next week in Mestalla, but today we did not expect this,” Gayà concluded.
