The relationship between fans and star players can often be a complex one, and Barcelona’s faithful are currently grappling with this dynamic regarding Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish striker, who has been the focal point of Barcelona’s attack since his arrival, has found himself at the centre of growing frustration among fans after a series of underwhelming performances.
The tipping point seems to have come after the 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid, where Lewandowski struggled to make an impact.
Despite Lewandowski’s impact this season as he lead the La Liga goals chart, fans have been left unconvinced by his recent displays.
Social media platforms have become awash with calls for the striker to be benched in favour of other options, a sentiment that reflects their growing concerns over his current form, as Barcelona slip from first to third place, despite having played a game more than Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
Speaking after the 2-1 loss to Atletico Madrid, Lewandowski decided to take a share of the blame.
He said: “In the last two or three games, I lacked some calmness inside the box.”
Lewandowski is without a goal in his last three appearances for Barcelona.
Barcelona’s next La Liga clash is away to Getafe on January 18, and Lewandowski will be hoping to be back at his best after the holidays.
