Chelsea’s teenage sensation Marc Guiu continues to turn heads, with former Blues star Joe Cole adding his voice to the growing admiration.
After Guiu’s scintillating first-half hat-trick in Chelsea’s 5-1 UEFA Conference League victory over Shamrock Rovers, Cole heaped praise on the 18-year-old striker, questioning how Barcelona allowed him to leave.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Cole was full of admiration for Guiu’s potential. “My thought with Marc Guiu is, how did Barcelona let him go?” he asked.
“When I watch him play, and he’s 18 years of age, this kid, in two years’ time, could be an established, unbelievable No. 9.”
Guiu’s performance against Shamrock Rovers showcased his predatory instincts and composure, qualities that have sparked calls from Chelsea fans for his inclusion in Premier League fixtures. Cole highlighted the attributes that make the young forward special.
“I think he could go all the way,” he continued. “Because I watch him, and all the things that you can’t teach he’s already got. He knows when to go in the box, his instincts, his aggression, he’s brave.”
While recognising areas for improvement, Cole emphasised Guiu’s raw talent and determination. “He can brush up on all the other things in his game. And at 18, he’s playing with a smile on his face, you know, I think Barcelona made a real, real mistake there.”
