Robert Lewandowski reached a major milestone as Barcelona defeated Brest 3-0 in the Champions League clash on Tuesday night.
Lewandowski scored the first goal of the game, which came from the penalty spot.
The goal marked Lewandowski’s 100th in the Champions League – an exclusive milestone that was only attained by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lewandowski is now the third player to reach that milestone after Cristiano Ronaldo (140) and Lionel Messi (129).
The 36-year-old has revealed his delight at matching such figures that were only attributed to Messi and Ronaldo in the past.
Lewandowski told Movistar (via Diario AS): “I am very happy, very happy. 100 is a great figure. I didn’t think I could score so many goals in the Champions League. But I think it’s a big statement to say that I’m on the level of Ronaldo and Messi.
“Today we played as a team. Sometimes we played very slow, but with patience we were able to score two more goals in the second half. In the end, three more points. Every game we seek to win. Until the end of the season we have to win every game.”
Lewandowski is in top form this season. The Pole international is top scorer in both the La Liga and the Champions League. He has scored 15 league goals this season, and 7 in the Champions League.
