Manchester City have confirmed they have re-signed Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona on a free transfer.
Just one year after signing for Barcelona, Gundogan has made a return to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side on a free transfer.
Gundogan, 33, spent seven years at the Etihad Stadium between 2016 and 2023, and will now rejoin City on a one-year contract plus the option of a further year.
Barca boss Hansi Flick has reacted to Gundogan’s move to Manchester City.
According to Flick, Gundogan made it clear he was leaving the club to help out their finances.
Flick had said last Saturday, that he felt Gundogan would stay after a conversation with him the previous week.
The Barca boss said: “Against Valencia I already had that question. He wanted to help us but changed his mind this week. It happens.
“I know him as a player and a person, and I can only say good things about him. He is a fantastic player and person.”
