Barcelona fans will be itching to see how Barcelona start the season under new manager Hansi Flick.

Hansi Flick takes over from Xavi who was fired at the end of last season.

Xavi’s negative response to a question last season, led to his ultimate dismissal.

Xavi was asked whether Barcelona could compete with Real Madrid. Xavi at the time complained about how Barca’s economic turmoil puts them in a difficult situation to compete with Real.

After that press conference, the Barcelona hierarchy turned on Xavi, and in less than three weeks he was sacked.

Hansi Flick has been asked a similar question ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga curtain-raiser against Valencia, and the new Barca boss gave a more cautious response.

“Do I think that we [Barcelona] can compete with Real Madrid? Football is all about winning or losing. When you win, everyone is happy. Like I’ve said before, I’ve come here to win,” Flick replied.

Real Madrid have strengthened their already strong team by signing Kylian Mbappe and Endrick, but Barca are having issues registering their own players and only managed to sign Dani Olmo.

Nevertheless, Hansi Flick didn’t complain about his squad.

“I am satisfied with the squad. When I signed my contract I knew it wouldn’t be easy but I trust the club,” Flick said.
