Thiago Alcantara called it quits on his playing career after the end of last season.

Following a season which was disrupted by injury, Thiago knew it was time to hang his boots.

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has decided to call Thiago into his coaching crew.

During his official unveiling as Barca manager, Hansi Flick answered a series of questions from journalists.

Speaking about his coaching staff, Flick gave his opinion on ex-Barca, Bayern Munich and Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

He said: “Thiago, I know him from Bayern. We have a really good relationship.

“When he had to retire, I think for every player in this situation it’s a bad time, a bad moment. We spoke about that and I told him: ‘If you want to have a look, to see how it works in the pre-season, in preparation, maybe for your next step, you are always welcome.’

“When I said this, you can see that something happens with him. You can see it also now on the pitch. I’m not sure what he wants to do, but I think it will be a good option to get the license and then see how the road is going. It’s really nice to have him on the side because he’s also a great person.”
