Barcelona youth coach Rafa Marquez recently stepped down as the head coach of Barcelona Atletic, just after two years.

The move came as a surprise to many, as Rafa Marquez had just renewed his contract with the youth team a month ago.

Rafa Marquez has explained his decision in his farewell letter to the club and fans.

The Mexican national was called to be an assistant coach of the Mexico national team – an offer he couldn’t turn down, he says.

His farewell letter reads: “It has been many days analysing the decision on a new challenge. It has been very difficult for me to make the decision to leave Barcelona Atletic and undertake a new commitment.

“I approach this new challenge with the responsibility it deserves. It has been my pride to represent my country, especially with such a significant commitment as playing a World Cup at home. Additionally, I am eager to share my knowledge, values, and passion for football with everyone involved in this new chapter.

“I appreciate the great opportunity given to me by FC Barcelona. To President Joan Laporta, directors, staff, players and workers of the club, I hope I have met the objectives and expectations set.

“As it already happened in my time as a player at the club, again I hope it is not a goodbye but a see you soon.”
