Xavi was disappointed to see his side lose to Girona 4-2.
Barcelona were twice ahead the game, but ended up losing the tie.
One individual mistake was enough for Barcelona to collapse – as Girona turned things around right after Sergi Roberto delivered a bad back pass.
Xavi has said it’s a mentality issue.
“Whatever adverse situation, we collapse mentally. It’s a maturity issue,” Xavi told the media after losing to Girona 4-2.
“We can compete better if we fix that mental issue… these are individual errors, we have to give them [the players] more confidence… we prepare the games very well, today we had a brilliant hour of play, but in the final stretch, we were not at the level a Barcelona player requires.”
“It’s difficult to find explanations. We were better [than Girona] for an hour and we threw everything in the trash. That sums up the season well – you don’t score and then you give goals away,” Xavi also said.
“In the end, the equaliser was a gift. The third goal was also our fault. Football is a game of mistakes. Last season, we gave away nothing in La Liga.”
