Barcelona have confirmed a new role for manager Xavi.

Xavi Hernandez has been unveiled as Barcelona’s latest Ambassador of the club’s foundation.

The club recognises Xavi following the charitable gestures he has shown the foundation since as a Barcelona player, and now as a manager.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Foundation Director General, Doctor Marta Segu were on hand to celebrated Xavi during a small ceremony at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

An excerpt of the club’s statement said: “Since his time as a player, Xavi has been involved in innumerable Foundation functions, hospital visits, training-ground meetings with seriously ill children, messages for various awareness campaigns and recently an emotional meeting with Bruno, a severely disabled child who has earned universal admiration.

“This ambassador appointment takes the FC Barcelona Foundation’s tally of eminent ambassadors to two: the athlete Àlex Roca, who exemplifies effort and overcoming adversity, came first when announced two years ago; and now comes Xavi Hernández, a symbol of work ethic, respect and discretion.”
