Barcelona on-loan star Joao Cancelo, seems to have burned all bridges left of his relationship with Pep Guardiola and even Manchester City.
Joao Cancelo has seen his relationship with Pep Guardiola and Manchester City get to a low point over the past year, but it now seems there’s no way back in it after an interview from Cancelo.
Joao Cancelo has branded Pep Guardiola a liar, and also slammed Manchester City for not appreciating his service.
Speaking with A Bola in a recent interview, Joao seemingly burned the remaining bridges with Manchester City and their manager Pep Guardiola.
When asked about the coach’s public criticism towards him, Cancelo vehemently denied any negative attitude, stating: “Lies were told! I’ve never been a bad teammate – you can ask [Nathan] Ake and Rico [Lewis].
“I don’t have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them, that’s the mister’s opinion.
“I think Man City were ungrateful to me when they said that because I was a very important player in the years I was there. I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans, and I always gave everything.
“I remember a time when I was mugged and beaten up and the next day I was playing at the Emirates against Arsenal. These are things you don’t forget, I left my wife and daughter alone at home terrified. People will only remember it because Mr Guardiola has a lot more power than me when he says something and I prefer to keep it to myself.”
This has put Barcelona in a dicey situation, as Barca were hoping to secure yet another loan deal for Cancelo in summer, even though Manchester City want an outright sale this time.
Manchester City want £30m for Cancelo, and won’t be ready to do Barcelona any favours, with Cancelo’s latest remark.
