Barcelona striker, Vitor Roque, lasted few minutes on the pitch against Alaves.

The 18-year-old came on and scored a goal for Barcelona in the 3-1 win over Alaves.

Within minutes of coming on, Roque was on the scoresheet, and few minutes later, he was shown a red card after two bookings.

For his second yellow, it was a controversial decision from the referee, as Roque didn’t seem to make contact with the Alaves defender, Rafa Marin.

So why didn’t VAR intervene?

VAR don’t ref the game for the referee, but only intervene in key points of the game. As it was a yellow card and not a straight red, it wasn’t in VAR’s jurisdiction to checkmate the referee.

Meanwhile, Xavi has vowed that the club will appeal the second yellow card.

“We are going to appeal Vitor Roque’s second yellow card. It is clear that it is a mistake, another mistake… his sending-off is very unfair,” Xavi told the media after the 3-1 win against Alaves.
