In a rare move from Xavi, the Barcelona manager pushed Andreas Christensen into the defensive midfield role against Alaves.
Christensen has mostly played in defence for Barcelona – which is his natural position. But the Dane hasn’t been used in the midfield role by Xavi – his second position.
For Chelsea and Denmark, it isn’t unusual for Christensen to play in DM.
After his impressive performance against Alaves, Xavi has now admitted that Barcelona have a new midfielder.
“Christensen has been really comfortable [against Alaves]. As a defensive midfielder, he gives us order and discipline,” Xavi told the media after the 3-1 win against Alaves.
“I’m happy because we now have a new midfielder.”
