Vitor Roque joined the Barcelona squad in January, but the 18-year-old Brazilian striker has struggled for minutes under Xavi.

Roque is yet to start a game for Barcelona, and even against third tier side Unionistas, Xavi opted against starting him. Roque did not play a single minute for Barca during the Spanish Super Cup. He featured for a few minutes against Betis and was again left on the bench in the Copa del Rey clash at Bilbao.

Xavi was questioned about Vitor Roque’s lack of minute, as some journalists questioned whether it was because Roque was brought in by Deco.

Xavi responded: “Let me clarify: Vitor is a Barca signing, not just Deco’s signing. We all trust him.

“The other day he didn’t play due to a tactical decision, but he already played against Betis and he will continue to be a player who will be important to us.”
