Many Barcelona fans would have expected Xavi to start Vitor Roque against Unionistas.

The 18-year-old officially joined Barcelona in January, and is yet to start a game for the Blaugrana.

The game against Unionistas provided a perfect opportunity for the Brazilian to get his first start for Barcelona, but he only came on for the final 12 minutes.

Asked why he didn’t give the 18-year-old more minutes, Xavi said: “Vitor Roque had some discomfort, that’s why he had [only] a few minutes. He will play more later on.”

Roque has made three appearances since joining Barcelona, and all as a substitute.
