Barcelona were beaten 4-1 by Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday night.
It was an embarrassing defeat that is rarely associated with a club like Barcelona.
Sunday’s heavy defeat comes barely eight months after Barca were humiliated by the same opponent at home in the Copa Del Rey. On that occasion, Barca lost 4-0 to Real Madrid in the second leg Copa del Rey semi-final clash.
Losing two El Clasicos while conceding four goals makes Xavi the first Barca coach since 1951 (73 years ago) to endure such defeats in less than a year.
What a bad record! But will Xavi be sacked?
Barcelona sporting director, Deco, has revealed that the club is still behind the 43-year-old.
“This question [about Xavi’s future] doesn’t make any sense. The coach continues to have everyone’s trust. It is a defeat that does not change anything in that aspect,” Deco told the media about Xavi’s future.
