Barcelona needed a win away against Shakhtar Donetsk to seal qualification from the Champions League group stage into the round of 16, but it wasn’t to be.

Barcelona dominated possession all through the game, but couldn’t create clear-cut chances.

It was a poor display from Barcelona, and the Blaugrana ended up losing the tie 1-0, as Danylo Sikan scored five minutes before half-time.

It never really looked like Barca could pull level, despite the changes made by Xavi in the second-half.

Speaking after the game, Xavi his team’s inability to interpret the game, as he said the team wasn’t at their usual level.

“Today the blame is entirely on our level. We did not play correctly,” Xavi told the media after the game.

“The Champions League demands the highest level and today we didn’t give it, we leave angry.

“Intensity? No, today I would blame the game, we didn’t interpret it correctly. We have to recover and improve, we continue.”
