Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has slammed a reporter for an outrageous rumour.

It’s been on record that Messi and Barcelona president Joan Laporta hadn’t met since the Argentine’s departure from the club.

Gerard Romero, a respectable Barcelona-based journalist had claimed that Messi met with Joan Laporta during the Ballon d’Or gala to discuss his possible return to Barca for a farewell game.

Lionel Messi seemed unhappy with the report which was apparently fake, and took to his Instagram to make that point clear.

“You’re lying once again,” Messi captioned a screenshot of the fake story.

The journalist replied with an immediate apology via X: “Apologies. I have been fooled again with something related to Leo.”
