It’s a sad situation for incoming Barcelona striker Vitor Roque.
The 18-year-old was carried away on a stretcher in tears after a horrific foul from Internacional’s Nicolas Hernandez in a recent game for Athletico Paranaense.
Roque, 18, was stretchered off injured in the first half of Thursday’s 2-1 Brasileirao Serie A win over Internacional.
Initial fears have now been confirmed; it’s a serious injury.
It now appears that Roque may have played his last game for Athletico Paranaense.
According to ESPN Brasil, the young striker has torn ligaments in his right ankle, which will make him miss around three months of action.
The Brazilian domestic season will end in December, meaning Roque may not play for his Brazilian club side again.
Barcelona confirmed in July they had reached an agreement to sign Roque for an initial €30 million rising to a potential €61m, based on performance-related add-ons.
Barcelona will try to bring Roque to Spain in January, but it will be dependent on the financial fair play situation with LaLiga at the time.
If Barça cannot afford to register Roque in January, Roque may stay with Athletico Paranaense until next summer.
