Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons since the women’s World Cup final.
Rubiales kissed Spain Women national team’s player Jennifer Hermoso without her consent during the team’s World Cup medal presentation.
Rubiales had vowed not to resign despite the heavy pressure on him to vacate the position.
However, Rubiales has now announced that he will step down from his position as president of the Spanish FA.
Speaking in an interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV, he said that he “cannot continue my work”.
With a lawsuit filed against the 46-year-old for sexual assault — Rubiales could face between one and four years in prison.
