Xavi Hernandez and Jordi Alba were teammates during Xavi’s time as a Barcelona player.
Xavi will go on to become Barca manager, with Alba still in the team.
Alba and Sergio Busquets were a key part of the Barca team when Xavi was a player.
Xavi’s chat with Jordi Alba about a difficult past season has been shown in a new documentary, and Xavi has revealed that it was difficult for him to coach his friends.
Xavi told Alba: “As a teammate, as a coach, as a culé, for me you have been the best full-back that has passed through here. And I wish you all the best, this is your home.
“I already told you that we all wanted, and I the first, that you leave with greatness, I think you deserve it. And if at any time you have felt disappointed, especially with me, it feels bad to me. It was nothing personal, you know that. I have a lot of affection, respect and admiration for you. You already know that I love you a lot, I know you have a very big heart.
“But you have to make decisions, and these decisions are usually difficult, especially when it comes to coaching friends.”
Alba ended up losing his place to Alejandro Balde, and ended up leaving Barca this summer for Inter Miami after struggling for minutes last term.
