Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal is set to break a record held by Gavi.

On 6th October 2021, Gavi became the youngest player in history to play for the Spain National team when he started La Roja’s 2-1 defeat of Italy aged 17 years and 62 days.

Another Barcelona youngster, Yamal could get an opportunity to break that record next month,  with the 16-year-old being tipped to receive a national team call-up ahead of the upcoming international break in September.

Spain head coach Luis De La Fuente has been monitoring Yamal’s development at Barcelona, and rates the 16-year-old highly, having also watched him start for Barcelona at the weekend in their 2-0 win against Cadiz.

Spain will face Georgia and Cyprus on September 8th and 12 respectively, and could be a perfect opportunity for Lamine Yamal to make his international bow.
