Barcelona have officially appointed Deco as their new sporting director.

Deco will take over the role from Mateu Alemany, who has worked at the club since 2021.

Alemany will leave the position on September 2, as he chose to help Barcelona this summer before leaving.

Reports had claimed that Alemany was not happy about how much decision-making power Deco has received from the club, and both parties can’t work together.

Deco has thrashed those reports, and revealed why Alemany is leaving.

“We are not incompatible [with Mateu Alemany]. He has already communicated that he has his own professional things to do,” Deco told the media.

“We will be working together until the end of the transfer market.”

Alemany oversaw some good transfers last summer, as the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde joined in one summer.
