New summer signing Oriol Romeu seems to have impressed Xavi, after featuring in recent pre-season games for the club.

Romeu impressed massively in the El Clasico friendly and also did well in the victory over AC Milan.

Xavi believes the former Girona midfielder will be adequate replacement for Sergio Busquets.

He said: “I am convinced that he will be a good substitute for (Sergi) Busquets.

“I know him and I have analysed him very well. He yields both attack and defence. It has been seen on this tour. He has leadership skills and communicates well. For me he is a great signing.”

Xavi also hailed Gavi, as he said: “He will have a very important role. If you review the minutes he has had since I arrived, he is the first or second that has participated the most with me. He will be essential. He is pure passion, with a winning character. Nothing has changed.”

And on Ansu Fati who scored the only goal against AC Milan, Xavi added: “Ansu made a difference for us.

“We need him on the last third of the pitch. I am very happy for him. We need everyone.”
