Barcelona have become accustomed to winning games 1-0 this season.
Barca currently top the league table, and this has mostly been because Xavi’s side know how to win difficult ties by a lone goal.
This season, Barca have beaten Mallorca, Celta Vigo, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Getafe, Real Sociedad, and now Girona by 1-0.
Interestingly, Barcelona have won their last three games 1-0.
According to reports, it is the first time in 43 years that Barcelona have won three matches in a row with this scoreline.
Speaking after the game, Xavi admitted he wasn’t too happy with the low scoreline, but he admits that it’s better than not winning at all.
“We have a rival in front of us, this is not a stage play. I also prefer winning 4-0 to 1-0 but the rival also plays. You have to be self-critical and improve many things, but also to note that we are on the right track and doing much better than a year ago,” Xavi said after the Girona game.
“We didn’t create chances but we were fairly comfortable with the ball. We needed to play much faster, though.
“We need to develop the confidence to do more things in attack. We created many chances with our pressing, but we did not do well in the attack. We have to be calmer in the opposition’s half.
“I am happy with the win, but we have to be self-critical with the match. This is not the way forward, and we were not brave enough.”
