Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez decided to start youngster Ansu Fati for the Catalan derby match against Espanyol.

Fati started the game and was subbed off shortly after the hour mark, after a poor display at the Camp Nou.

Fati was criticised after the game, but manager Xavi Hernandez, rather defended the 20-year-old, and claimed that he’s playing well in training.

Xavi said: “Ansu looks great. He played from the start [v Espanyol] because he is training very well.

“He has made a tremendous change in terms of defensive work. Ansu lacked effectiveness in front of goal that the entire team also lacked, but I see him growing very well.”

Fati has so far scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists in 21 appearances for Barcelona this season.
