It was a painful night for the Selecao at the World Cup in Qatar, as Brazil were beaten by Croatia.

After a goalless game in 90 minutes, Neymar scored a superb 106th minute goal in extra time that gave Brazil a 1-0 lead. However, Bruno Petkovic’s equalised for Croatia four minutes from time, sending the game into penalties.

Brazil eventually lost the kicks 4-2 on penalties, and Neymar did not even get to take a penalty as he was designated to be the fifth taker.

In what might be the last World Cup for the 30-year-old, Neymar burst out into tears at full-time.

He sat in the turf in tears and wept uncontrollably. He had to be comforted by the veteran Dani Alves, who helped him up to his feet. Alves tried to ensure that the players were comforted after the game. At some point, Raphinha joined in consoling Neymar.

Dani Alves and Neymar were former teammates at Barcelona, and Raphinha who’s the only Barcelona player for Brazil has as well been sent packing from Qatar.
