Barcelona youngster Gavi has won the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris on Monday evening, following his outstanding performance over the past football year.
The award is for the best player of last season aged under 21, and had a number of top young players who made the shortlist.
Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham, Musiala, Nunuo Mendes and Camavinga were all nominated alongside Gavi.
The 18-year-old, whose full name is Pablo Martin Paez Gavira, succeeds fellow Barcelona teammate Pedri, who won the prize last year.
Gavi, who has already won 12 caps for Spain, was picked by a jury made up of former winners of the Ballon d’Or itself.
Gavi played 48 games for Barca scoring twice and providing six assists. He also played 12 times for the Spanish national team scoring once.
Last month, he signed a new deal with Barcelona tying him to the club until 2026, with a release clause of one billion euros. This only shows how much he’s worth and his potential for the future.
