Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez had claimed that ‘sometimes not the best team wins the Champions League’.

Xavi hinted that some teams played better football than Real Madrid last season.

Xavi’s comments had been laughed off by Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal.

Carvajal said: “Xavi’s comments about the Champions League not always being fair? It makes me laugh. This debate about whether it’s fair or not exists only when [Real] Madrid wins the Champions League.

“When other teams win it, it is always fair and there is meritocracy for these people.”

Meanwhile, Xavi was very angry with the match officials following Barcelona’s 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan in midweek.

Xavi said after the match: “I’m pissed off at the injustice we’ve just experienced. The referees will have to talk and explain themselves because we don’t understand anything.

“I asked the referee to explain his decisions after the match and he refused.”
