Xavi reveals how Barcelona star has reacted to Luis Enrique snub

Despite being fit, Barcelona forward Ansu Fati was not called up by Spain boss Luis Enrique for Spain’s fixtures in September.

In what was the last international break before the World Cup in November, it’s clearly not a good sign for the young player.

Explaining his decision, Enrique said he needs to see Fati play more games.

The Spanish head coach said: “Now there could be up to 26 [players] on the bench, but it is something that could have consequences for the health of the group. It could be a squad of 26 or 24. I haven’t decided yet”.

“I need to see Ansu Fati playing at Barcelona, [Aymeric] Laporte is already recovered and is training with his team..But it is true that it will be a difficult squad and not everyone that I would like will be in it.”

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has revealed that Fati was not affected by his Spain snub.

“Was Ansu Fati affected by not being called up to the national team? It has motivated him to work more,” Xavi said in the latest press briefing.

“He’s been great the last two weeks. When we trained he was doing really well.”
