Uruguay national team head coach Diego Alonso has said that he hasn’t given up hopes of Ronald Araujo’s participation in the World Cup in November.
The 23-year-old centre-back got injured on international duty with Uruguay, and he is expected to be out for a long time.
The Barcelona centre-back is expected to miss the World Cup after suffering a right adductor injury.
However, Uruguay coach Diego Alonso, has insisted he hasn’t given up hopes yet on Araujo.
He said: “I told Araujo that we would wait for him until the end. We still believe that there’s a chance for him to play the World Cup.
“We’ll see how we recovers. Hopefully he will make it in time.”
Araujo had a successful surgery on Tuesday morning, and is expected to be out for the next 7 weeks.
