Barcelona’s economic vice-president Eduard Romeu has said that the club is capable of signing superstar Lionel Messi.

The Argentine legend is in his second year at PSG, and Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said he wants Mesi to retire at Barcelona.

Romeu has now said that the club is capable of re-signing Messi.

“As it [re-signing Leo Messi] would be on a free, so surely it is something that we can do. But it would be a technical decision anyways,” Barcelona’s economic vice-president Eduard Romeu has said.

“There is a salary margin, we made an effort this summer on salaries,” he added.

Romeu however hints that Messi will have to adapt to the new salary limits set by Joan Laporta.

“It is an aspiration that I have as president and I would like it to happen, [as] I have been jointly responsible for that end which I consider provisional,” said Laporta of 35-year-old Messi who left Barcelona to join PSG after 21 years at the Camp Nou.

“Messi’s time at Barcelona didn’t end the way we all wanted it to. It ended very much conditioned by economic reasons and we have a moral debt.

“In that sense, we would like the end of his career to be in a Barcelona shirt and applauded at all grounds wherever he goes.”
