Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has opened up on the tough decision he has to make about his injury.

The 23-year-old had torn his thigh adductor while on international duty with Uruguay.

It was at first believed that Araujo had made the decision to choose a conservative treatment over surgery, so he can feature in the World Cup.

However, it was confirmed on Monday that the Barcelona defender has made the hard choice of undergoing a surgery that would rule him out of action for at least two months, and subsequently miss the World Cup.

Ronald Araujo has now explained his decision.

“I want to make the reasons for my decision [to undergo surgery] clear in order to avoid speculation,” Ronald Araujo wrote on twitter.

“I love my country. I love my team [Barcelona].

“After consulting with several professionals, we decided that surgery is the best option. Here it is not about ‘choosing’ one or another option. It is about health and getting back to 100% as soon as possible.

“This is a very difficult time for me personally. I take this opportunity to thank everyone for the support I am receiving.

“With faith and hard work, I will do my best to come back as quickly as possible. Hugs and blessings!

“I can do everything with Christ who strengthens me!”
