Ronald Araujo has been a key player for Barcelona this season, but the 23-year-old suffered injury while on international duty with Uruguay.

Barcelona have since confirmed Araujo’s injury.

Barcelona said in a statement: “Tests on Saturday morning have confirmed that Ronald Araujo has a right adductor longus tendon avulsion. As a result he is unavailable for selection until he recovers.”

Araujo may either undergo surgery or a conservative treatment.

The Uruguayan wants to be 100 per cent fit for the 2022 World Cup in November, and has decided that he won’t be undertaking surgery.

If he ventures to have surgery, he would have to recover for a longer period of time.

With the World Cup in mind, Araujo would use a conservative treatment, which could see him out until towards the World Cup period.

The Uruguayan may be back in action in 6 or 7 weeks, which means it is unlikely he’d play any more games with Barcelona this year.
