Barcelona have now confirmed the appointment of Jordi Cruyff as the club’s sporting director – a decision manager Xavi was happy to hear about.

Cruyff shares a similarity with his father Johan, having also played for the club – and returned last year to serve as a director, and has remained there ever since.

The appointment has now been made official, and Cruyff will continue to work alongside director of football Mateu Alemany.

Xavi has admitted that he’s happy with the appointment.

“I am happy for him and for us because he is a very capable person, he knows a lot about football, he is very loyal to me personally but also to the entire staff,” said the Barcelona manager.

“It’s a great decision by the club, totally right. Both Mateu and Jordi are fantastic for the position. I am very happy.”
