‘He’s not ready’ – Xavi says of promising Barcelona star

Young Barcelona star Ansu Fati wasn’t invited by Spain for their Nation League games coming up during the international round of matches.

Fati’s absence will be a blow to the youngster ahead of the World Cup. The teenager has only made one start this season despite having featured in seven games, scoring twice and getting one assist.

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has however said that the 19-year-old may not be ready for the World Cup later this year.

“Ansu’s World Cup chances? I hope he gets back to his best, but at the moment, I don’t think he’s ready for the squad,” Xavi said in his press conference for the Elche game.

“I hope in 30 days he re-finds his level. He’s in the process of regaining his confidence. We have high expectations in him and we hope he achieves them.

“Ansu is fine, but we are following a plan with great caution so that he feels like before.

“Maybe it’s our management’s fault, but he will come in little by little. He made a difference in San Sebastian.

“He has to increase the intensity and pace a little bit.”
