According to Pete O’Rourke, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag remains a huge admirer of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and will continue to monitor his situation at Barcelona.

Ten Hag was keen on signing De Jong this summer but the Dutch international was reluctant to leave Barcelona despite Manchester United agreeing a €85million deal with Barcelona for his transfer.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “Erik ten Hag is a huge admirer of Frenkie de Jong, so I’m sure he will continue to monitor the situation and see if there’s any way a deal could happen.

“Whether that’s in the January transfer window or next summer, a lot will depend on Barcelona’s finances, which I presume are still not looking too healthy.

“They might have to be forced to sell Frenkie de Jong for the money.”
