It was an emotional moment at the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla as play was halted in the 82nd minute of the game between Cadiz and Barcelona.
Barcelona was leading 2-0 at the time – when the players alerted the referee to a medical emergency in the stands, with an older supporter having collapsed.
The match referee had to stop the game. Reports say that a person in the stands suffered an emergency and the medical team had to intervene.
The game was paused for nearly an hour, but play was restored after the supporter was revived and sent to the hospital.
Speaking about the incident after the game, Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez insisted that the life of a human is worth more than football.
Speaking after the match, Xavi said: “The life of a human being is above football. If there had been a misfortune, then we would have suspended the match for sure.”
