It has been a complicated transfer situation involving Barcelona and Frenkie de Jong.
However, it seems both parties are now set for a final resolution.
Transfer expert Gerard Romero had revealed earlier this week that there has been a twist, and Frenkie de Jong is now closer to staying at Barcelona this season than he is to leaving.
This came after both parties agreed for De Jong to stay, with Xavi considering the midfielder a key part of his squad.
Gerard Romero has further claimed that Frenkie de Jong is set to have a final showdown talk with Barcelona officials to decide his future.
The meeting will take place next week in which Barca will hope to find out whether the Dutchman is willing to lower his salary or not.
If an agreement isn’t reached, then De Jong will be told to leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window.
De Jong’s annual salary of €22m is said to be way beyond Joan Laporta’s strict wage limit and the midfielder has been asked to take a 50% pay cut if he wants to stay.
De Jong will be part of the squad that will face Real Sociedad on Sunday, and then a decision would be finally made on his future afterwards.
