Barcelona played out a frustrating goalless draw with Rayo Vallecano at the Camp Nou on Saturday.

Despite Barca bossing possession all game, Xavi’s side were unable to break the Rayo defence.

Barcelona defender Eric Garcia admitted after the game that Barca should have won.

“We knew that Rayo Vallecano are a tough opponent. Their goalkeeper made three important saves. We cannot be satisfied, we needed those three points,” he said.

“We could have won. We created many chances,” Garcia said, before adding, “There is clearly room for improvement from us.”

Xavi however credited Rayo Vallecano for their strong defensive performance as he said: “Rayo’s defensive system was very good and their goalkeeper was excellent.

“We did not play well, but every player tries to give his best. The humidity and heat affected us. Obviously the same goes for Rayo. We ask for the patience and confidence of the fans in this team,” he further added.

Xavi was also not pleased that his side wasn’t able to convert the chances that were created, as he said: “With the chances that we created, we should have scored at least a goal. The team was more tense than usual today, more nervous.

“It was a frustrating draw. We are disappointed, but we have to be patient and trust the project. I’ve told the players that the pressure is on me now.”
