Chelsea are being strongly linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
According to Relevo, Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly had called up Frenkie de Jong over a transfer move.
Boehly said that he wanted the midfielder to join Chelsea.
De Jong was reported to have replied that his preference would be to stay at Barcelona.
Meanwhile, media outlet Mundo Deportivo, claim that De Jong would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge but only if he can’t remain at Barca.
Revelo also insist that Chelsea won’t give up on signing Frenkie de Jong anytime soon.
Some reports still claim that Barcelona are looking to either sell De Jong or get him to lower his wages significantly, and the Dutchman is said to be opposed to both scenarios.
Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has admitted he’s unsure of the future of De Jong, and claims that anything can happen before transfer deadline.
Xavi said after Barcelona’s last pre-season match against Unam Pumas: “I don’t know what will happen to Frenkie de Jong. Until August 31, anything can happen, but he knows what I think and what the club want and need.
“Of course I’m counting on him, he’s a great player.”
