Since signing for Barcelona, Memphis Depay has worn the No. 9 jersey.
However, summer signing Robert Lewandowski has now been handed the No. 9 jersey at Barcelona.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona told Memphis Depay that they will be giving the No.9 jersey to Robert Lewandowski the day before the Poland international’s presentation at Camp Nou.
The report further claimed that Lewandowski spoke to Memphis about it, and the Dutchman had no issues about it.
When asked about it, Joan Laporta confirmed that it was a unilateral decision from the club to assign the no.9 jersey to Lewandowski.
“It was a decision of the club. For reasons that interest the club, for image and publicity issues, we have made this decision, with respect to Memphis, I am sure he will understand it perfectly,” the Barcelona president said.
Meanwhile, reports have it that Barcelona are still interested in selling Depay this summer.
