A lot has been going on between Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and the club.
De Jong has so far rejected every transfer plan to Manchester United, and there have been talks of him wanting his deferred wages to be paid.
Reporter Gerard Romero has given slight details of a recent private meeting between Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Frenkie de Jong.
Laporta reportedly told the Dutchman that he likes him and wants to retain him. However, the midfielder needs to accept a pay cut to stay put.
Romero adds that Frenkie de Jong’s staying is now more likely than it was.
Meanwhile, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez was quite skeptical when he recently gave an update on the midfielder.
When asked about whether Barcelona are still looking to sell Frenkie de Jong, Xavi said: “I haven’t sent any signal to Frenkie de Jong.
“Let’s see what happens, as there is a lot of time until the 31st of August.”
