After what seemed like a long wait, Barcelona have finally confirmed the signing of Andreas Christensen.
The 26-year-old joins Barcelona as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Chelsea.
The interesting part of Christensen’s deal is that the centre-back has a release clause of €500m.
Barcelona confirmed the deal on the club’s official website: “FC Barcelona and Andreas Bødtker Christensen have reached an agreement for the player to join the club after his contract with Chelsea FC came to an end.
“The player will sign a contract until 30 June 2026 and his buy out clause will be set at 500 million euros.”
Christensen’s release clause has been trending on social media since Barcelona released the statement.
Christensen has signed a four-year deal with the club and is expected to be a top signing for Barcelona.
The Dane international will be unveiled on Thursday, with new signing Franck Kessie expected to be unveiled on Wednesday.
Speaking in a recent interview, Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed the two signings and revealed the days they will be unveiled as Barcelona players.
“We will present Kessié on Wednesday and Christensen on Thursday,” Laporta said.
